.21 linear feet (1/2 file box)Collection consists of two handwritten cookbooks created by Isabella Coolidge Councilman. Volume 1 is titled Cooking Recipes and features tabbed sections for different types of recipes such as bread, meat, fish, and dessert. The volume is inscribed "Isabella Coolidge Councilman 1915 from Aunt Julia Coolidge" and features mainly American recipes including fish balls, veal loaf, and oatmeal cookies. Many of the recipes were added later by her daughter, Isabella Councilman Wigglesworth, and include several recipes attributed to Julia Child. Volume 2 contains handwritten recipes for candies, desserts, seafood and meat entrees, and soups. Also included are recipes clipped from unidentified newspapers.
BIOGRAPHY
Isabella Coolidge Councilman, daughter of David Hill and Isabella Shurtleff Coolidge, was born March 20, 1861, in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1894, she married pathologist William Thomas Councilman (1854-1933); they had three children, Isabella Coolidge Councilman Wigglesworth (1895-1989), Christiana Drummond Councilman Morgan (1897-1967), and Dr. Elizabeth Councilman Rogers (1899-1981). She was affiliated with the Arlington Street Church in Cambridge and was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames and the Garden Club of America. Councilman died January 16, 1934.
