.42 linear feet ((1 file box), plus 2 photograph folders)The bulk of this collection documents Darlene Jeter's professional life as president of Jet-A-Way, including correspondence, profiles in periodicals and newsletters, event programs, and some speech notes. The collection also contains family histories, unpublished biographies, Jet-A-Way publications, and a small number of photographs. Correspondence and newspaper articles dated prior to 1991 are often addressed to or written about Eddie Jeter. Folder titles were created by the processor. This collection is arranged alphabetically followed by photographs.
BIOGRAPHY
Darlene Jeter was born in 1937 and was the president and co-founder of Jet-A-Way, a recycling and waste disposal company based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1969 by Jeter and her husband Eddie, by 1996 the company was one of the largest minority-owned businesses in the city. Trained as a practical nurse, Darlene Jeter began her work for the company as a bookkeeper and office manager. After her husband's death in 1991, she became president and expanded the company's range of services and clientele. She died in Newton, Massachusetts, in 2019.
