1 folderThe collection includes newsletters from 1943 from two Women's Army Corps bases in Massachusetts and Florida. There are two issues of "Petticoat Soldiers" from Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and one issue, "Wactivities," from the WAAC training Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Both newsletters contain articles documenting local news and social events on the base, as well as material supplied by the Camp Newspaper service of the United States War Department. The issue of "Wactivities" also documents the arrival of new WAC trainees from Fort Devens. In addition, there is a 1944 Thanksgiving menu from the ASF Regional Hospital, Camp Blanding, Florida. The menu contains a roster of hospital military and civilian staff, including the Army Nurses Corps and the WAC detachment hospital personnel. There are also two clippings about the WACS (1946, undated).

WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS HISTORY
The Women's Army Corps (WAC) was the women's unit of the United States Army. It was created as an auxiliary unit, the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), in 1942 to allow women to serve in noncombat positions. In July 1943 it changed from auxiliary status to become an official branch of the United States Army, affording women the same pay, ranks and privileges as male soldiers.
