Scrapbooks are organized by trip and contain photographs, writings by Williams, menus, itineraries, programs, clippings, and other materials. Also included are programs, publications, and other materials documenting Williams's involvement with the Garden Club of America, the Colonial Dames of the State of New York, and the New York Botanical Garden. The collection also contains correspondence, writings, and other materials documenting the lives of Williams's mother, Kate Trecartin Ogden, and maternal grandparents, John and Henrietta Trecartin.
BIOGRAPHY
Helen Ogden Williams, daughter of Alfred and Kate Trecartin Ogden was born July 13, 1887, in Brooklyn, New York. She married Andrew Murray Williams (1878-1948), a lawyer, in 1913. They had four children, John Gilmore Williams, Andrew Murray Williams, Jr., Ogden Williams, and Helen Hope Williams Wigglesworth. She was an active member of the Garden Club of America. Following her husband's death, Williams began organizing and leading travel tours of Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America for groups of women through the New York-based company House of Travel. Williams died in May 1969.
