The collection contains handwritten, typed, and mimeographed menus for lunch and dinner at the Bay View Resort. Several menus contain dates from July 1938. The menus feature entrees such as Salisbury steak, hot roast beef sandwich, and cheese croquettes; vegetables including au gratin potatoes, pickled beets, and glazed carrots; and a variety of desserts including floradora pie, fruit Jell-o, and raisin rice custard. There is also a listing for beverages and a child's plate. The collection also contains a menu jacket for 1938, three business cards describing the amenities of the resort, and a postcard with a photograph of the exterior of the resort.

HISTORY

The Bay View Resort was located on Highway 89 in Lake Tahoe, California. It offered lodging and cottages, dining, groceries, souvenirs, and gasoline. The resort was situated on Inspiration Point, which overlooks Emerald Bay.

The Bay View Resort menus were acquired by the Schlesinger Library from Electibles in January 2021.
