.42 linear feet (1 file box)Collection consists of baby books for Augusta Alger Prince, her brother Philip Langdon, and her sister Catharine. The books include congratulatory telegrams, notes on the babies' development, locks of hair, lists of gifts received, poems, and photographs. Augusta's baby book continues for a number of years and includes letters to and from her, a height chart, sketches of Augusta at various ages; and an invitation to her wedding to David Chandler Prince, Jr. Catharine's includes notes from a playgroup she attended in 1928 on her social adjustment, emotional reactions, etc. Collection also includes Philip L. Alger's self published book Tales of my Life and Family.
BIOGRAPHY
Augusta Alger Prince was born in 1919 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Catharine Jackson Alger and Philip L. Alger. Catherine Jackson Alger was a member of the Radcliffe College Class of 1915. After Prince's birth, the family settled in Schenectady, New York. She had four siblings: Philip Langdon (1922-1929), Catharine (1925-1935), John (1927-2005), and Andrew (1932-2014). Her parents also adopted Philip Alger's niece Anne Vogdes (1927-2020). Prince attended Radcliffe College (BA 1940), as did her daughters Catharine and Charlotte.
