.21 linear feet ((½ file box) plus 1 oversize folder)The collection consists of programs for several Rose City Rollers tournaments. The rules of Roller Derby, and accepted behavior during play, are described in the programs, which include advertising, sponsors, and team lineups. Ticket stubs and wrist bands are laid into some of the programs. A wooden paddle and a paper skate mounted on a popsicle stick are also included in the collection.
HISTORICAL NOTE
The Rose City Rollers is a roller derby league, founded in Portland, Oregon, in 2004. The league's mission is to serve girls, women, and gender-expansive individuals interesting in playing the team sport of roller derby, connecting with an inclusive community, and realizing their power both on skates and off. The league consists of four home teams (Break Neck Betties, Guns N Rollers, Heartless Heathers, and the High Rollers); an internationally-ranked travel team (the Wheels of Justice) composed off all-stars from the home teams; two junior derby teams (Rosebuds and Rose Petals); a developmental competitive program; and a recreational program with skaters ranging in age from seven to sixty years old. The league is primarily run by volunteers.
