Collection contains a copy of "Public Sculpture and its Public," an introductory address to a slide lecture on large-scale public sculpture delivered at the Toledo Art Museum, Bradley University, and the State University of Buffalo in October 1978. Also included are 13 slides of public sculptures, some of them documenting the creation of Pepper's sculpture for Dartmouth College in 1977.
BIOGRAPHY
Sculptor Beverly Pepper, daughter of Beatrice Hornstein and Irwin Stoll, was born December 20, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York. She studied advertising and industrial design at the Pratt Institute and later studied at the Art Students League of New York, and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. After working for several years as a commercial art designer, Pepper began her artistic career as a painter before turning to sculpture in the early 1960s. Known for her large-scale metal sculptures, her works can be found in the collections of museums and in public spaces throughout the United States and Europe. Pepper was married to the writer Curtis Bill Pepper (1917-2014); they had two children. Pepper moved to Italy in the 1950s and remained there until her death on February 5, 2020.
