BIOGRAPHY
Elsie Stuart Clark Carpenter, daughter of Edmond and Mary Stuart Field Clark, was born September 27, 1906, in Brooklyn, New York. She received an AB from Radcliffe College in 1928 and from 1928 to 1932, worked as a laboratory assistant at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 1929, she married Russell LeGrand Carpenter; they had two children. Carpenter died January 20, 1998, in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
