2 foldersCollection includes five letters Stanton wrote to various people, about her appearance at a "Freethinkers Convention," distribution of her book, Eighty Years and More, and other topics; and Stanton's printed birthday poem to Susan B. Anthony on her 80th birthday. Also includes photocopies of inscriptions by Stanton from two volumes of The Woman's Bible. The Woman's Bible volumes are held by the Schlesinger and shelved as 220/W872 and 220/W87v.2.
BIOGRAPHY
Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) was a leading suffragist, abolitionist, and women's rights advocate. With Susan B. Anthony, she founded the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869, and served as its president until 1890. She was critical of Christianity's views toward women, her The Woman's Bible was an attempt to correct what she saw as sexist readings of Biblical scripture.

These papers of Elizabeth Cady Stanton were acquired by the Schlesinger Library from Paul C. Richards in 1962, 1965, and 1966; from University Autographs in 1968; and from and James Howgate, in 1966 or 1967. Some of the items were purchased with the support of the Margaret Earhart Smith Fund. Inscriptions were transferred from the Schlesinger Library Books Department in September 1984.
