1 folderCollection consists of eight small notebooks (May-October 1893) detailing Lilla Viles Wyman's travels to and sojourns in Lake Placid, New York, and New York City. Diary entries include accounts of sightseeing, theater, ballet lessons from Mamert Bibeyran, and discussions of dressmaking and fashion; programs, sketches, and swatches of fabric are included. Other topics include traveling by boat from Fall River, Massachusetts, to New York, New York; searching for housing in New York, New York; unhappiness, and the Edwin Booth (brother of John Wilkes Booth) funeral.
BIOGRAPHY
Lilla Bell Viles Wyman was born in 1859 to John Viles and Frances (Thornton) Viles in Waltham, Massachusetts. Lilla Viles Wyman spent several years taking dancing lessons and traveling around the world. Lilla Viles Wyman married Walter Bowers Wyman on October 1, 1889. After Walter Bowers Wyman's death in 1891, Lilla Viles Wyman opened a dancing school in Boston, Massachusetts. She died in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on April 13, 1944.
