1 folderThis collection contains a scrapbook created by Janet Wien McAllister. The scrapbook contains McAllister's acceptance letter to Radcliffe College, programs and tickets from Radcliffe events, and clippings. It also contains course schedules, report cards, and letters regarding her summer job as a playground leader in Belmont, Massachusetts. In addition, the scrapbook contains playbills, calling cards, dance cards, and invitations to social events. McAllister makes short comments about many of the items and events.
BIOGRAPHY
Ruth Janet Wien McAllister, who went by Janet, was born on February 11, 1914, in Belmont, Massachusetts, to Paul and Evangeline (Payne) Wien. McAllister graduated from Radcliffe College, cum laude, in 1935. She also studied at Simmons Secretarial School (B.S. 1936), the University of Chicago School of Social Services, and Simmons School of Social Work (M.S. 1944). McAllister worked as a medical social worker at Grace New Haven Community Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, and was director of Social Services at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, from 1949 to 1958. She later worked as director of Social Services at the New England Medical Center. In 1975, she married Alexander McAllister. Janet Wien McAllister died on February 2, 2004, in Tavares, Florida.
