The collection consists of a handwritten recipe book with loose items, some added by Josephine Rose Lee Saltonstall's daughter and others. The recipe book includes recipes for fish, chicken, ham, soup, pickles, cakes, fruit desserts, puddings, and gingerbread. Some of the recipes appear to have been collected from friends or acquaintances.

BIOGRAPHY

Josephine Rose Lee Saltonstall was born in Salem Massachusetts, in 1843, the daughter of John Clarke Lee and Harriet Rose Lee. She married William Gurdon Saltonstall in 1867; they had four children: Robert, Lucy, John, and Rosamund. Josephine Saltonstall died in 1889.
