Extent

1 folder

This cookbook consists of a published ring-bound volume, entitled "Recipes" with 21 tabbed and titled dividers with the following titles: bread (which includes biscuits, muffins, rolls, and buns), cake and cookies, candy, desserts, drinks, eggs, fish, icings, meats, miscellaneous, sandwiches, pastry, pickles, potatoes, preserves, rices and cheese, salads, dressings, sauce (which includes sauces for fish, meat, and desserts), soups, and vegetables. It is possible that some dividers have been lost over time. The volume includes typewritten and handwritten recipes, as well as recipes clipped from newspapers and magazines and pasted in. It is possible that the volume was owned by a woman of German ancestry given that there are a number of recipes for German desserts, including Klaben, Kafee Kuchen, Schmalzkuchen, Topfkuchen, and Berlinerluft. Also included in the volume is a pamphlet entitled Spring Fever? regarding the planting of spring flower bulbs. Given that the volume has a patent date of 1904, it may be that it was first used in the early part of the 20th century.

BIOGRAPHY

This cookbook was likely owned by an unidentified woman. It is possible that she may have been of German ancestry given that there are a number of recipes for German desserts in the volume.
