The collection consists of one volume entitled, The Manuscript Receipt Book and Household Treasury, published in 1870 by Claxton, Remson, and Haffelfinger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was intended as a simple volume indexed in sections (e.g. soups, fish, meats, salads, beverages, medicinal remedies, etc.), in which the woman of the house could record her favorite recipes. The title page includes the quote "The turn-pike road to people's hearts I find, lies through their mouths, or I mistake mankind." Additional food and beverage related quotes are included at the beginning of each indexed section along with food and beverage related imagery. The bulk of the recipes recorded in the volume are for cakes, breads, puddings, and medicinal remedies. Many pages are blank. Given the publication date of the volume it may have been received by Andrews as a wedding gift.
