The papers of Sally Faith Dorfman contain a curriculum vitae, clippings about Dorfman, and Radcliffe College class biographies. Also included are letters written to her parents while a student at Radcliffe documenting dormitory life, including being among the first Harvard/Radcliffe students to live in co-ed Houses; classes taken, including one taught by John Kenneth Galbraith; impressions of professors and classmates; dating; playing flute in Radcliffe bands and being the first female student in the Harvard Band; attending concerts, lectures, sporting events, parties, and other social events; and attending Jewish services. Letters also contain critical and sympathetic observations on student unrest, which Dorfman did not participate in, although she did participate in lobbying efforts undertaken by Harvard and Radcliffe students to end the Vietnam War. Most of the photographs in this collection are or will be digitized and available online. A web site documenting Dorfman's role in reviving Cornwall, New York's 4th of July pageant is being captured periodically as part of Schlesinger Library's web archiving program. Folder titles were created by the archivist. Files are arranged alphabetically.

BIOGRAPHY

Sally Faith Dorfman, daughter of David L. Dorfman, a dentist, and Dolce Stern Dorfman, a buyer for Macy's department store, was born in 1950 in Cornwall, New York. She received an AB in Economics from Radcliffe College in 1971, and her MD and an MS in Health Services Administration from Stanford University in 1976. She has worked in a variety of positions in the medical field, including as a gynecologist in Newburgh, Kingston, and New York, New York (1982-2001); academic positions at several institutions including Emory University (1980-1982), Mount Sinai Medical Center (1982-1999), and Cornell University (1989-1998); Commissioner of Health for Orange County, New York (1988-1994); and service in the United States Public Health Service (1980-1982) and United States Public Health Service Reserve Corps (1982-2010). Since 2010, Dorfman has been a supervisory physician at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York.
