.83 linear feet (2 file boxes)The recipe collection of Olga Gruenberger Schiffer consists of a manuscript cookbook in German kept by Schiffer; and loose recipes collected by Schiffer handwritten on index cards or clipped from magazines and newspapers with recipes, many of which are in German. Many of the recipes in the collection probably came from the 1935 edition of Wiener Küche. Some recipes were used in the Window Shop restaurant. Folder titles were created by the archivist. Files are arranged alphabetically.
BIOGRAPHY
Olga Gruenberger Schiffer was the daughter of Theresa Posiles Gruenberger and one of the founders of the Window Shop, an organization in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that offered employment to, and raised money for refugees from Germany and Austria during and after World War II. Schiffer ran the Window Shop restaurant, which served German and Austrian specialities.
