I. Personal and family, 1-10. Oral history transcript, autobiographical writings, and memoir by sister Virginia Fox Hunt contain information about the Bledsoe-Herrick and Fox families and her husband, author Richard Connell.
II. Professional, 11-29. Talks, published and unpublished articles, and editorial correspondence.
III. Eugene J. Bullard, 30v-41. Draft of Bullard's memoir, edited by Connell, published version, and Connell's correspondence concerning its publication.
BIOGRAPHY
Louise Fox Connell, journalist and editor, was the granddaughter of Sophia Bledsoe Herrick and daughter of Hugh Francis and Virginia Herrick Fox. She was born near Bayonne, New Jersey, graduated from Barnard College (A.B., 1914), and married author and screenwriter Richard Connell in 1919.
An adwriter for J. Walter Thompson, 1915-1920, she later edited and wrote for the Delineator, 1920-1923, Charm, 1923-1925, and You, 1936-1941. She was a freelance writer for Glamor, 1941-1943, and published occasional articles in Parents' Magazine, Mademoiselle, and Vogue. With Ruth Hawthorne, she was co-author of the play, "The Queen Bee," in 1929.
In retirement she was a volunteer at Fordham and Lenox Hill hospitals and member of the Query Club, the literary club of All Souls' Unitarian Church. She was also member of the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP), and the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). She encouraged a Black World War I aviator, Eugene J. Bullard, to write his memoir, edited it, and tried to find a publisher for it. The memoir was rewritten by P.J. Carisella and James W. Ryan and published as The Black Swallow of Death in 1972.

These papers were given to the Schlesinger Library by Louise Fox Connell in February 1980 and by her estate in December 1986.
