Hayward Warren Cushing (1854-1934) was the son of Hayward Peirce (1812-1870) and Harriet Maria (Pierce) Cushing (1817-1897). Hayward Warren attended Harvard College, graduating with an A.B. in 1877, and then Harvard Medical School, graduating with an M.D. in 1882. He held positions in surgery at the Boston City Hospital and Children’s Hospital and was a member of the American Surgical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He married Martha Helen Thompson (1858-1943) in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1894.
