The Morris collection consists of a bound volume of correspondence. There are around 200 letters from 22 correspondents. Major correspondents include Charles Horton Peck and Curtis Gates Lloyd. Correspondence is arranged alphabetically by sender.

George Edward Morris was born in England on February 25, 1853 and moved with his family to Lawrence, Massachusetts, at a young age. He was educated in Lawrence and graduated from the Boston Normal Art School. He taught drawing in Waltham public schools and at night school in Malden for the rest of his life.
Morris became interested in botany through the use of plants in design. He studied botany and zoology at the summer school on Martha’s Vineyard and at the Boston Teachers’ School of Science. In the late 1890’s he turned his attention to mycology. He collected and studied fungi in the vicinity of Waltham during his free time and went on excursions to Maine, New Hampshire, and New York during summer vacations. He was a member of several scientific organizations, including the New England Botanical Club and the Boston Mycological Club, and corresponded regularly with mycologist, Charles Horton Peck.
Morris painted hundred of watercolors of plants and fungi during his lifetime. Morris died in Waltham on July 5, 1916.

The Harvard University Herbaria houses five research libraries that are managed collectively as the Botany Libraries. The Farlow Reference Library of Cryptogamic Botany specializes in organisms that reproduce by spores, without flowers or seeds. The Archives of the Farlow Herbarium of Cryptogamic Botany houses unique resources including personal papers, institutional records, field notes and plant lists, expedition records, photographs, original artwork, and objects from faculty, curators, staff, and affiliates of the Farlow Herbarium.
