The collection consists of images of antiquities in Europe, Middle East, and North Africa. Most of the photographs show temples, statues, mosaics, and ceramics in Egypt, Greece, and Italy as they were in the first half of the 20th century. A significant number of photos documents objects and archaeological sites in Athens, Istanbul, Naples, and Rome. Other images of special interest depict Theban tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.
Arrangement
The collection is organized in five series: 1. Prehistoric, 2. Egyptian, 3. Aegean civilizations, 4. Etruscan, and 5. Greco-Roman. Series 3, 4, and 5 are organized in subseries. Files within series and subseries are arranged alphabetically by the name of the city.
