This class was instituted to meet the demand of Italian merchants for stenographers who can take dictation in their own language. Photographer's stamp on verso. Accompanied by typescript (carbon copy) of "History and aim of the Five Points House" with "Five Points" hand-corrected to "Italian."
Historical: American photography studio and publisher Underwood & Underwood was established by the Underwood brothers, Bert and Elmer, in 1882. The firm was a prominent publisher of stereographs in North America until 1910 when it began to specialize in news photography. After the Underwood brothers retired in 1925, the company eventually dissolved around 1940.
