The 1799 bill appears to be rendered by Dr. John Manning (1738-1824) of Ipswich, Massachusetts, and the 1804 and 1809 bills were for the medical services of Manning’s son Dr. Thomas Manning (1775-1854). The bills listed patient names, dates of the visit, and medicines adminstered, most commonly cathartics. Manning also noted if the patient was African-American.
