Access. Except for Series 1, records are closed for 50 years from the date of creation except with the permission of the Dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Student records are closed for 80 years from the time of separation. Records must be screened by archivist before research use. Appointment may be required. Contact public services.

Conditions Governing Use

Copyright. Copyright in the records created by the Radcliffe Seminars is held by the President and Fellows of Harvard College for the Schlesinger Library. Copyright in other papers in the collection may be held by their authors, or the authors' heirs or assigns.

Copying. Records may be copied in accordance with the library's usual procedures.

Office records from the Radcliffe Seminars document the history and content of the program, including records from the Radcliffe Seminar on Women. Records of the Radcliffe Seminars comprise two series: Administrative files containing correspondence, minutes, reports and course information, 1950-1959; and academic transcripts, 1974-1985.

HISTORY

The Radcliffe Seminars were inaugurated in 1950 with initial funding from the Carnegie Corporation to provide non-credit liberal arts courses taught mainly by Harvard professors to women in mid-life. Currently, courses are offered in five areas: liberal arts, landscape design, management studies, non-credit enrichment courses, and study tours.
