BIOGRAPHY
Mary Garrett Hay was an active suffragist who worked closely with Carrie Chapman Catt, as well as a temperance reformer and Republican Party leader. She was prominent in the National American Woman Suffrage Association, president of the New York Equal Suffrage League (1910-1918) and of the New York City Woman Suffrage Party (1912-1918), and chairman of the Republican Women's National Executive Committee (1919-1920) and of the New York City League of Women Voters (1918-1923). These papers of Mary Garrett Hay fill two folders of the Woman's Rights Collection, which was given to Radcliffe College in August 1943 and formed the nucleus of the Women's Archives, later the Schlesinger Library. The material in these folders was prepared for microfilming in April 1989 by Jane Ward. It was microfilmed as part of a Schlesinger Library/University Publications of America project.
