Copyright. Copyright in the Woman to Woman Videotape collection is held by the President and Fellows of Harvard College for the Schlesinger Library, but during Pat Mitchell's lifetime anyone wishing to publish, perform, or broadcast any portions of the videotapes must obtain her prior written permission. Researchers may also need to obtain permission from the successors, if any, of Golden West Television.
Copying. Videotapes may be copied in accordance with the library's usual procedures.

100 videotapesThe collection consists of one videotape each of 100 shows from the "Woman to Woman" series. A total of 169 shows were produced in the series, but only those most relevant to women's history were selected for preservation.
On each 50-minute show, host Pat Mitchell talks with five to ten women on a topic pertaining to women, such as children, relationships, religion, sexuality, health, or a social or political issue. The format is conversational; women share stories and offer opinions from their personal or professional experience.
The inventory includes the title of each show and a brief summary taken verbatim from a list provided by the donor. Dates for individual shows were not included in the list provided. Videotapes are 50 minutes, 3/4" with sound and color.
HISTORY
"Woman to Woman" was a nationally-syndicated television talk program that aired in 1983 and 1984. The series was aimed primarily at a female audience and featured women conversing about timely social and personal issues. It received an Emmy Award for Best Daytime Talk-Service Show in 1983-1984.
Pat Mitchell was creator, host, and co-producer of the show. Prior to producing "Woman to Woman," Mitchell had worked as news anchor, talk-show host, film critic, and producer. Her television career began at WBZ-TV in Boston (on "Woman '75"); she then worked at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. (on "Panorama") and at NBC (on "America Alive" and "Hour Magazine"). She won an Emmy Award as Outstanding Talk Show Host in 1977. In 1985, she began to contribute segments, called "Woman to Woman on 'Today'," to NBC's "Today"; they dealt with issues similar to those in the original "Woman to Woman" series. One of the founding partners of VU Productions, she produced several hour-long documentaries on such topics as infant mortality, child-labor abuses, changes in the workplace, and women in war. In 1992, she was named Senior Vice President of TBS (Turner Broadcasting System) Productions. She has been a member of the Advisory Committee of the Schlesinger Library.
