Included are correspondence with colleagues and records of her work as department chair. The bulk of the papers documents her unfinished research on women mathematicians in the 19th century, and includes biographies, correspondence, and research material.
BIOGRAPHY
Mary Elizabeth Williams was born in Augusta, Kentucky, on November 30, 1909. She attended Randolph-Macon Women's College from 1928 to 1930, and received the A.B. degree from Radcliffe College in 1933. She earned an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky in 1936, taught mathematics at Ashland, Ky. Senior High School (1936-1941), and at Marshall College (1942-1946), and became Chair of the Skidmore College Mathematics Department in 1946. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, American Association of University Professors, American Mathematical Society, Association for Women in Mathematics, and the Mathematical Association of America.
