.96 linear feet (1 folio box)This scrapbook contains greetings and felicitations to Ada Comstock from alumnae and Radcliffe clubs. Letters and telegrams and speeches were gathered in a volume for her tenth anniversary as President of Radcliffe College by the Radcliffe Club of New York and presented at a luncheon given in her honor on January 27, 1934 in the Town Hall Club of New York.
BIOGRAPHY
This scrapbook, "My Tenth Anniversary" was given to the Radcliffe College Library by Ada Comstock, and transferred from there to the Archives (n.d.) Ada Louise Comstock was born in Moorhead, Minnesota where she completed high school at the age of fifteen. She attended the University of Minnesota for two years and then went to Smith College from which she graduated in 1897. She taught in the Department of Rhetoric at the University of Minnesota where she was named first Dean of Women. In 1912 she went to Smith College as Dean and Professor of English and in 1921 was named first president of the American Association of University Women.
Comstock came to Radcliffe in 1923 as the first full time president. On her retirement in 1943 she married Wallace Notestein, Sterling Professor of History Emeritus at Yale. ALC was honored in 1954 at Radcliffe's 75th Commemorative Exercises. At the time of her death in 1973, she had received fourteen honorary degrees, and three colleges had named residence halls for her.
