Most of the papers document VOW-NE; there are by-laws, minutes, reports, and membership lists, as well as programs and speeches from annual meetings. The group's focus on civil defense and disarmament is documented by correspondence, clippings, flyers, speeches, and reports that address both sides of the issue. Also included are correspondence, minutes, reports, and statements of Coalition Politics, and photographs.
BIOGRAPHY
This collection focuses on Cynthia Rich's involvement, both as an individual and as a member of Voice of Women--New England, in the peace movement. Voice of Women--New England was a group formed in Massachusetts in 1961 to "develop a program of education and action for easing world tensions, leading toward the goal of a world without war." The group was concerned with such issues as war toys, atmospheric nuclear testing, civil defense, and foreign policy decisions, and attempted to influence politicians and others through letter writing, speaking engagements, peace demonstrations, and educational programs. In 1965-1968 Rich represented VOW-NE at Coalition Politics, an organization designed to facilitate rapid and efficient exchange of information among peace groups in New England.
