Additional records of the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, 1913-2014 (inclusive), 1934-1998 (bulk)

These addenda to the records of the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association provide details about annual and executive committee meetings, fundraising, educational activities, and conservation efforts. The bulk of the records consists of minutes, reports, programs, correspondence, and photographs; president's books and scrapbooks highlight yearly activities such as horticultural therapy, civic improvements, flower shows, and the Frysinger Fellowship. The Grace Frysinger Fellowship Exchange makes it possible for two recipients, one from the Associated Country Women of the World and one from Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, to visit rural and urban homes, attend association meetings, and travel throughout the exchange country for one month. The arrangement and most folder headings were created by the processor; headings by the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association appear in quotation marks. Additional material received between 2012 and 2015 (accession numbers 2012-M174, 2015-M165, 2015-M197) were added to the collection in June 2018. These materials are housed in #18.1-20.4, E.2. All other files remain in the same order. Folders are listed in intellectual, not numerical, order.

Series I, ADMINISTRATIVE RECORDS, 1913-2014 (#1.1-9.1, 18.1-19.6, E.1), is arranged in four subseries.

Subseries A, History, organization, and related material, 1914-2013 (#1.1-2.10, 18.1-18.4, E.1), includes by-laws and constitutions; project notes; awards; correspondence; articles; histories; information about scholarships and the Grace Frysinger Fellowship Exchange; reports, articles, and programs from the Associated Country Women of the World; biographies of long-standing members; and copies of the Declaration of Independence that were signed by 1377 members for the Bicentennial project. The files are arranged alphabetically.

Subseries B, Meetings, 1934-2008 (#2.11-7.23), contains minutes, annual reports, correspondence, programs, articles, project notes, and agendas. Five meetings have audio recordings, filed separately; see Series V.

Subseries C, Divisions and branches, 1929-2014 (#8.1-8.17, 18.5-19.6), includes minutes, reports, histories, yearbooks, and articles.

Subseries D, Correspondence, 1913-2005 (#8.18-9.1), includes letters and literature sent to Louisa King from English agricultural training schools for women, letters and reports from Woman's National Farm and Garden Association's archivists about the records, letters about publications, and e-mails from members regarding Woman's National Farm and Garden Association's website.

Series II, PRESIDENTS, 1928-2014 (#9.2-10.14, 20.1-20.3), is arranged in two subseries.

Subseries A, Biographies, 1927-1991 (#9.2-9.8), contains articles about and biographies of Woman's National Farm and Garden Association's presidents.

Subseries B, President's books, 1962-2014 (#9.9-10.14, 20.1-20.3), contains dismantled binders presented to the out-going presidents. Included is material distributed by the president to members of Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, minutes, financial reports, annual reports, and photographs.

Series III, SCRAPBOOKS, 1931-1978 (#10.15-10.18, 11FB.1-11FB.6, 12F+B.1-16F+B.2), contains dismantled scrapbooks assembled by Woman's National Farm and Garden Association's national historian, and various branches. They include meeting minutes, photographs, articles, publicity clippings, programs, member lists, invitations, newsletters, and letters to Woman's National Farm and Garden Association.

Series IV, PUBLICATIONS, 1917-2012 (#17.1-17.13, 20.4), includes documents relating to the writing and publication of A Chronicle: History of Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, Incorporated, 1914-1984, and other publications by Woman's National Farm and Garden Association. Series V, PHOTOGRAPHS, AUDIOVISUAL, AND OVERSIZED, 1939-1989, 2007 (#PD.1-PD.11, T-107.1 - T-107.10, Vt-162.1, 11FB.7, E.2), includes photograph albums, loose photographs, audiotapes, one videotape, and oversized items found within the collection.

Most of the photographs in this collection are or will be cataloged in VIA, Harvard University's Visual Information Access database. Others, referred to as "uncataloged" photographs, are not of sufficient research interest to warrant cataloging and are simply treated as part of the documents they accompany; they are marked on the back with an asterisk in square brackets [*].
