This collection contains correspondence, financial papers, photographs, miscellaneous notes, and sketches. The bulk of the correspondence dates from the 1920s and 1930s; it is arranged by writer, although most folders also contain some letters to the writer. Fragile letters have been photocopied; the originals are closed to research. Some letters are fragments only. Photographs are for the most part unidentified, and a substantial portion of the notes is nearly indecipherable.

HISTORY

The branch of the Hamiltons represented in this collection is the family of Montgomery Hamilton and Gertrude (Pond) Hamilton and their five children, Edith, Alice, Margaret, Norah, and Arthur. These papers of the Hamilton family were given to the Schlesinger Library in December 1984 by Lorraine Broom and Harry Broom, the present owners of the Hamilton house in Hadlyme, Connecticut.
