1.25 linear feet (3 boxes)The papers in this collection on the Schleswig (1919), Eupen & Malmedy (1920), Sopron (1921), Tacna-Arica (1925-26), and Saar Basin (1934) plebiscites include official documents, clippings, correspondence, notes, and annotated manuscripts. The collection also includes several drafts and printed copies of articles by Sarah Wambaugh on international law.
Biographical Information
An instructor in history and government, and an expert in international affairs, Sarah Wambaugh was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Eugene and Betty Wambaugh, and earned two degrees from Radcliffe College (A.B. 1902, A.M. 1917). She was an advisor to the Peruvian government for the Tacna-Arica Plebiscite (1925-1926), to the Saar Plebiscite Commission (1934-35), to the American observers of the Greek national elections (1945-1946) and to the U.N. Plebiscite Commission to Jamma and Kashmir (1949), among others. During WWII, she served as a consultant to the director of the enemy branch of the Foreign Economic Administration (1940-1945). She died in Cambridge, MA, on November 12, 1955.
