Extent

2 boxes

This collection of Papers of John M. Bullard relates to his manuscript The Greens As I Knew Them. Mr. Bullard wrote this book after the publication of Arthur H. Lewis's The Day They Shook the Plum Tree (Harcourt, Brace & World, 1963). Mr. Bullard was a native of New Bedford, Mass., and his law firm was closely associated with the Green family (Edward Henry Green and his wife Hetty) for many years. His book was published privately in New Bedford in 1964.

The two boxes contain a printed, but unbound, copy of his manuscript, a typed carbon copy thereof, and various materials which Mr. Bullard collected in preparation for writing his book. There are a few personal items relating to the publication itself.

The papers contain correspondence, legal documents and briefs, printed material, pictures, newspaper clippings, and facsimiles of samples of handwriting.
