Biographical / Historical
Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) was an American composer, conductor, harpsichordist, organist, educator, and a graduate of Harvard University (A.B. 1934, M.A. 1944). Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Pinkham studied organ performance and music theory at the Phillips Academy and went on to study at Harvard University and Tanglewood. Pinkham taught at the Boston Conservatory beginning in 1946 and at the New England Conservatory of Music from 1959-2006; he created and chaired the early music performance program. He also taught classes at Boston University, Simmons University, and Harvard University, and was the organist of King’s Chapel in Boston. Pinkham performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a harpsichordist and organist. He died in Natick, Massachusetts, at the age of 83.
