.2 linear feet (1 volume)Typescript and autograph manuscript correspondence primarily about Thayer's publications. Includes acknowledgements to Thayer by Ethel Roosevelt Derby of sympathy note written after Quentin Roosevelt's death and by Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt after Theodore Roosevelt's death. Many envelopes are retained.
Also includes: letter from Roosevelt to Lindley Miller Garrison; letter from Thayer to Roosevelt; notes by Thayer; and a typescript carbon list of contents, marked "For Houghton", and signed by N. E. Cordingley, 1947 August 14.
Biographical / Historical
William Roscoe Thayer (1859-1923) was an American author and editor. He graduated from Harvard with an AB in 1881, became editor of the Harvard Graduates' Magazine in 1892, and was a biographer of Roosevelt.. Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) received an AB from Harvard College in 1880, and later became the 26th president of the United States.
