Various research materials for a book project that included a chronology of Ernest Henry Griset's life and a catalog of Field's collection of Griset's work. Book was to be titled Ernest Griset on my shelves. Some materials are in the hand of Field's research assistant, Jane Quinby, some by Field, and some unidentified others. Includes 1937 letters from Willy Wiegand (1884-1961) of the Bremer Presse, and bound corrected proof of book.

Includes autograph manuscript notes, letters, typescript drafts with autograph manuscript revisions, corrected proofs, card files, and a clay pipe.

Biographical / Historical

William B. Osgood Field (1870-1949) was an avid book collector and philanthropist. He wrote and published a number of books concerning his collecting interests, including Edward Lear on my shelves, John Leech on my shelves, and others. Field also collected illustrations by British illustrator Ernest Henry Griset (1844-1907). Between 1928-1934, Field and his assistant, Jane Quinby (1901- ), began a project for a book, Ernest Griset on my shelves. The printing process was begun with Willy Wiegand of the Bremer Presse, but it was never published.
