.5 linear feet (4 volumes)Extra-illustrated and extended to 4 vols. by the insertion of 833 items, including engraved portraits (some by Peter Lely) and views, broadsides, autograph letters, original tradesmens bills and newspaper cuttings. Vol. 1 includes a letter signed "E G," apparently dictated by Eleanor Gwynn to Laurence Hyde; documents signed by John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, Thomas Killigrew, James II, and Samuel Pepys; autograph letters of Thomas Tenison to Henry Dodwell and Sir Charles Sedley to William Dugdale. Vol. 2 includes an autograph letter by George Monck. Vol. 3 includes autograph letters by Louis XIV to Turenne, by the Duchess of Portsmouth, Thomas Good, John Evelyn and others. Vol. 4 includes autograph letters by Thomas Tenison to the bishop of Ely, Jan. 1710; and by the Earl of Orrery to Thomas Osborne, May 1673. Laid in each vol. is a leaf with statement: Extra-illustrated by Augustus Toedteberg of Brooklyn, New York.
