Included are letters to George Rex Graham, founder and editor of Graham's Magazine, and letters to Griswold from some of his protégés. Also letters relating to a memorial meeting in honor of James Fenimore Cooper.
Biographical / Historical
Griswold, an advocate of "Americanism" in literature, worked to increase public respect for American authors. He was on the staff of various magazines including Graham's Magazine (assistant editor, 1842-1843, succeeding Edgar Allen Poe), edited anthologies of poetry, and was a controversial literary critic.
