Letters from Adams to Rae discuss Adams' travel abroad, Rae's engagement, American involvement in the war, Samoan culture, the death of Adams' mother and Rae's husband, and Adams' recovery from a stroke. Most of the letters either share or ask for news of mutual friends and family. Adams also frequently describes his boredom with society and his thoughts on aging and death.

Biographical / Historical

Adams was an American novelist, historian, and social critic. Rae was a friend of Adams' wife, Marian (Clover) Adams.
