.1 linear feet (1 volume)Contains 55 letters and 1 memorandum from Washington to Lincoln written during the American Revolution when Washington was commander in chief of the military forces of the colonies. The letters concern movement and positions of troops, discussion of deserting troop members, information about Britain’s possession of U.S. towns and intelligence, and details of military recruits. Also includes discussion of Sir Henry Clinton's expedition against the western Indians. Later letters discuss the treaty between the Indians and the commissioners in Georgia, and the need to build houses in the capital for the members of Congress.
