1 linear feet (2 boxes)Consists of professional correspondence to Gould concerning scientific work in the field of natural history particularly the study of shell specimens. Correspondents include Charles Baker Adams, Louis Agassiz, John Gould Anthony, John Bartlett, Hugh Cuming, James Dwight Dana, Charles Darwin, Louis R. Gibbes, Samuel Stehman Haldeman, James Hall, and Thaddeus William Harris. Also one letter by Gould and four unidentified letters.
Biographical / Historical
Gould, a naturalist and physician, was one of the great influences on the development of the study of conchology. He was a constant contributor to scientific journals and a joint author with Louis Agassiz of Principles of Zoology (1848).
