This collection is divided into six series. Series I consists of recorded sermons by David Hicks MacPherson. The sermons are arranged chronologically, and most of them are recorded on audiocassettes, which contain two sermons to a tape. A few of the sermons are recorded on compact discs. Series II contains Unitarian Universalist videos, arranged chronologically. Series III consists of MacPherson videos, including his final Sunday service at the First Unitarian Church of Richmond and the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of his ordination. The videos are arranged chronologically. Series IV contains material relating to the First Unitarian Church of Richmond, such as a ministerial search packet. Series V is a chronological arrangement of sermons. Series VI consists of writings by MacPherson.

Biographical / Historical

David Hicks MacPherson (1928-) was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He received a BA from Tufts University in 1950 and an STB from the Crane Theological School in 1952. He also attended Harvard Divinity School while preparing for the ministry. He was ordained a Universalist minister in 1952 and served pastorates in Foxborough, Massachusetts (1950-1951); Silver Spring, Maryland (1952-1962); Lutherville, Maryland (1962-1975); Richmond, Virginia (1975-1987), where he was named minister emeritus in 1998; Brookfield, Wisconsin (1987-1993); and Waynesboro, Virginia (1993-1996). MacPherson was also the recipient of the Clarence R. Skinner Award in 1961.
