This collection is divided into eleven series. The first series consists of correspondence, arranged chronologically. Series II consists of biographical papers which include ordination material, certificates, and travel receipts. Series III contains programs and miscellaneous papers, arranged chronologically. Series IV is biographical clippings, also arranged chronologically. Series V consists of scrapbook material, such as correspondence, programs, and clippings. Series VI consists of subject files that include clippings and notes for sermons and lectures. Series VII contains writings by Kirk. Series VIII is sermons and services, arranged chronologically by original date of delivery. Series IX contains lectures, essays, poems, and miscellaneous compositions by Kirk. Most of these lectures were given several times; they are arranged here by the (often approximate) date of original composition. Series X is scrapbooks, photographs, and pictures. Series XI, labeled miscellaneous items, consists of Kirk's diplomas.

Biographical / Historical

Hazel Ida Kirk (1885-1957) graduated from the Canton Theological School of St. Lawrence University in 1915 and was ordained to the Universalist ministry the same year. She served parishes in Ogdensburg, New York; Eastham, Danvers, and Taunton, Massachusetts; Pawtucket, Rhode Island; and Rumford, Maine. Kirk served as a missionary in Japan from 1918 to 1923; was president of the Women's National Missionary Association from 1929 to 1933; and also held various offices in the Women's Universalist Missionary Society of Massachusetts from 1934 to 1939.
