Biographical / Historical

William Brooks Rice (1905-1970) graduated from Tufts College in 1938. Prior to pursuing a career in the ministry, he was an architect in Boston. In 1938, he was ordained to the Unitarian ministry at Francestown, New Hampshire, and he subsequently served parishes in Dover and Wellesley, Massachusetts. During his career he served as director of the American Unitarian Association, chair of the AUA Department of Ministry, and chair of the AUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee. Rice served as chairman of the Joint Merger Commission, which accomplished the merger of the Unitarian and Universalist denominations in 1961. In 1964, he received the UUA Distinguished Service Award.
