Biographical / Historical

Harvard Business School was founded in 1908. In the early years many of the faculty members were both traditional academics and "real-world practitioners" recruited from industries to teach at the business school. From the 1920s through the 1950s, many of the new faculty came from HBS MBA and doctoral programs. In addition to teaching and conducting research at HBS, faculty are actively engaged with many outside activities such as serving on boards of directors and as presidents of professional research membership societies, receiving awards, and presenting speeches and lectures. The staff at HBS have been involved in the daily operation of the school as well as conducted research with faculty members.
